It is the oldest covenant to man – apart from marriage. The Blood Covenant. It is at the heart of the Christian Communion Experience, and yet the average believer knows almost nothing about it. It bound brothers together-to death. It was a pact of brotherhood, of mutuality, of a jointly held oath. It was about loyalty, deep friendship, love and care with pledged action. Could it be that the light and casual fellowship we share as believers is a world away from the blood-brother bonds that God desires us to have with one another? Does the world wonder after us as it did the early Church; “My how those Christians love one another!” Are we participating in the broken body and blood…missing the practical and relational implications? A stirring study.
